Colombia welcomes Canada back to multilateral arena

A student in Pasto, Colombia, 2010. Colombia is a country of focus for Canada’s international development programs, including projects improving conditions for children and youth.

Colombian Ambassador Nicolás Lloreda said he hoped Canada’s new Liberal government would maintain Canada’s policy focus on Latin America and the Pacific Alliance, and welcomed the country's planned change of pace in the multilateral sphere.
Continuing Canadian development projects in Colombia’s rural regions will go a long way towards shoring up the peace negotiations between the Colombian government and the left-wing militant group FARC, said Mr. Lloreda.
The Colombian government hopes to wrap up its peace talks with FARC by the end of March, he said.
