Canada and the Pacific Alliance had been preparing to sign a co-operation agreement at a summit in July, but delayed the deal when Canadian ministers got tied up in election preparations, say Colombian diplomats in Canada.
That means Canada’s new foreign minister will find a deal with the Pacific Alliance waiting for him as he settles into his new job.
The agreement was to take the form of a joint declaration, a brief document in which the parties would agree to explore further co-operation on facilitating trade, natural resources management, corporate social responsibility, education, science and enabling small business, wrote Miguel Castro, a diplomat at the Colombian embassy in an emailed statement.
