Canada’s trading relationship with Honduras is modest in absolute terms. Canada’s merchandise exports are less than $50-million a year while importing four times as much. Canada exports more to the United States in 88 minutes than to Honduras in a year. The Canada-Honduras FTA has the potential to further undermine human rights and democracy in Honduras. Today the Honduran government is struggling to legitimize itself after undertaking fraudulent elections. In Honduras several parties, representing more than 40% of the electorate are challenging the legitimacy of the recent presidential election.
