Human rights in the Americas need a Canadian boost

The Embassy News has an article on Venezuela pulling out of the American Convention on Human Rights.

During the last 60 years, institutions seeking to foster greater respect for human rights in the hemisphere have been painstakingly assembled and strengthened. Over the same period, the Americas have known military coups, civil wars, extra-judicial executions, torture and virtually every other type of denial of human rights.
